LETTERS, Page 6TRUMP IS THE NAME
More power to Donald Trump (PROFILE, Jan. 16). I love his
style. He's a man who does his own thinking. I'd like to see what
he could do with the U.S. presidency. Maybe someone has finally
come along who can fill this country's needs.
Carol Barrette
Menominee, Mich.
Your report on Trump accomplishes two things: it nourishes his
insufferable ego and makes everyone else sick.
Benjamin C. Hammond
Exeter, N.H.
I thought your cover story on me was badly written and very
shallow. A comment in the column "From the Publisher" noted that
one of the great strengths of the Profile section has been to give
readers a multidimensional look at people. This profile was
certainly single dimensional in every respect and failed to include
many aspects of my career that would have made the article a great
deal more interesting to readers. While it is an honor to be on the
cover of TIME, it is not an honor to be unfairly described.
Donald J. Trump
New York City
The report on Trump is one of the few stories that give the man
a fair shake. It was informative and evenhanded without being
overly kind and polite, yet showed his personal side.
Dan Brody
Idaho Falls
You neglected to mention a very special facet of Trump: his
humanitarianism. Several months ago, the grandchild of one of our
teachers had to be flown from the West Coast to New York for
life-saving medical treatment. One call to Donald Trump's office
resulted in his arranging for his private jet with three nurses to
fly the patient round trip at his own expense.

There are other rich people in the U.S., but I can think of no
one else who elevates conspicuous consumption to the status of a
public virtue.
Edith Goldfinger
